Top 5 Album Releases this Week!

By Dan

Check out our top new albums for this week, releasing on the 5th of September!

1. Ryan Adams: Self Titled – Ryan Adams' new album is a self-titled affair and the first to be released on the combined Pax Am/Blue Note imprint. Produced by Adams himself at his own Pax Am Studios in Los Angeles, the new record is the NC-born singer/songwriter s first full length since 2011's acclaimed Ashes & Fire. The first single ‘Gimme Something Good’ has already elicited wide praise with Stereogum exclaiming “he doesn't seem to have lost a songwriting step!

2. The Kooks: Listen – Listen is the band's first album in three years. The album was recorded in Los Angeles and London, and produced by Inflo.

‘With this record we didn't do any rehearsing beforehand. I'd write a song with Inflo or on my own, put it up and we'd all play over it. There was a real freedom to the process,’ said the band's frontman Luke Pritchard. ‘To me this album is about pure expression. Even the way we made the album felt fresh. Rather than us just being a band in a room, playing our guitars with the vocal over the top, which is what we'd always done before, we were really listening to what was going on around us, picking up ideas. The whole thing was much more natural.’

3. Nikki Lane: All or Nothin' – For her hotly anticipated sophomore album Nashville songstress Nikki Lane teamed up with Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys for a record that turns the vulnerable singer-songwriter stereotype on its ears. With songs that crucify ex-boyfriends, celebrate one-night stands (as long as she can bolt town right after) and proclaim it's always the right time to do the wrong thing, Lane comes across like a modern-era Wanda Jackson, albeit with more oats to sow. “My songs always paint a pretty clear picture of what s been going on in my life, so this is one moody record”, she says. There's lots of talk of misbehaving and moving on.

4. Robert Plant: Lullaby and… The Ceaseless Roar – “It's really a celebratory record, powerful, gritty, African, Trance meets Zep" Plant says. “The whole impetus of my life as a singer has to be driven by a good brotherhood. I am very lucky to work with The Sensational Space Shifters. They come from exciting areas of contemporary music…I have been around awhile and I ask myself, do I have anything to say? Is there a song still inside me? In my heart? I see life and what s happening to me. Along the trail there are expectations, disappointments, happiness, questions and strong relationships” Plant explains, "… and now I'm able to express my feelings through melody, power and trance; together in a kaleidescope of sound, colour, and friendship.”

5. In Flames – Siren Charms – With more than three million copies sold worldwide and ten studio albums to date, Swedish modern metal band In Flames have not only redefined the genre during the past years, but also made their mark far beyond its boundaries. “Siren Charms” aims to continue on this success with 11 tracks offering blistering metal anthems such as Rusted Nail and Filtered Truth. This album marks a turning point for the band as they move towards a more accessible sound while still maintaining their hard-earned rock credentials.
